Ashley Peoples is a long-time resident of Cape May, and she was first introduced to spinal cord injury (SCI) during her seven years as a member of The Cape May Beach Patrol. Ashley was involved in several ocean rescues of beachgoers who were injured on the surf line. She was further exposed to the devastations of SCI after she started working for Todd DeSatnick at DeSatnick Real Estate and was introduced to Todd's brother, Chad. Chad DeSatnick had personally suffered an SCI injury and was involved in several charities. Ashley started volunteering for Life Rolls On and The DeSatnick Foundation regularly.
Ashley is married to her husband, Matthew Peoples, and they have three young children together. She is raising her family in the Cape May Community and hopes by spreading awareness about SCI, she can ensure the safety and enjoyment of the local beaches for both locals and tourists.

Kevin is involved with a number of local charitable organizations, serving as a Board Member on several. He is specifically proud to help elevate awareness of The DeSatnick Foundation and its mission and objectives.
Lew Kurland grew up in Cape May. He remembers when high tide at Philadelphia Ave. Beach came up to the rocks. But, at low tide, the beach was flat and the waves were great for body surfing. Lew spent his summer days like a lot of locals did—he first worked as a “Steger Boy” at Philadephia, Queen, Howard, Stockton and Steger Beaches. He then graduated to being a busboy at the Lobster House and pumping gas at Cape Island Marina. After graduating from LCMRHS, Lew went on to Lafayette College, Lehigh University and Western New England College Law School. Lew practiced real estate law until his retirement in 2017. Following his retirement, Lew has been a volunteer at LunchBreak, a non-profit in Red Bank, NJ that provides meals, groceries, clothing, job counseling and other services to individuals and families in need in eastern Monmouth County. He also served on the Board of Directors of Family Resource Associates, a non-profit entity in Red Bank that provides an array of training and educational services to disabled individuals and their families in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Since his retirement, Lew also has a high-pressure part-time summer job as an usher for the Jersey Shore Blueclaws, the High-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies in Lakewood.
Lew and his wife Jane have lived in Monmouth County for over 35 years, raising their two sons, Adam and Daniel. Adam and his wife Lauren Podber live in Jersey City. Daniel lives outside of Nashville. Last but not least, Jane and Lew are the proud aunt and uncle of Chad and Todd DeSatnick—the founders and the heart and soul of the DeSatnick Foundation!
Chris was raised but not born (shout out to Texas!) in Cape May County. Chris has been a lifetime friend of Chad and the DeSatnick Family. A lifelong surfer and waterman, Chris has experience and training in water-related spinal injuries. Chris's proudest accomplishment in the South Jersey area is his 10-year Team Leader responsibility at the Life Rolls On “They Will Surf Again” Events, held on the Wildwood Island. Sharing the stoke of surfing and seeing the smiles of the participants, the family members, and the fellow volunteers is one of the greatest memories he has so far in his lifetime. Chris maintains a thriving acupuncture and natural medicine practice in Cape May Court House and enjoys spending his free time with his family, his wife Amanda and their three children, Stella, Graham and Julia.

Jessica Jarmer; Heath Coach, Natural Food Chef and most importantly, Mother.
Jessica is a graduate of Salve Regina University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Upon graduation, Jessica taught in both parochial and public schools as well as the juvenile jail system. After a number of years serving in education, Jessica left to raise her family.
Three children later, Jessica enrolled in higher education programs for health and wellness. After adopting a plant based diet at age twenty-one, her return to school focused on Natural Food. She graduated culinary school and enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to receive a certification for Health Coaching and became a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Jessica then refined her specialty and became certified in Plant Based Nutrition. She spent many years educating others on plant based nutrition through individual coaching, group cooking classes, and has been recognized as a keynote speaker at cancer centers, Monmouth University, and several local mothers’ groups, covering topics from heart disease to diabetes.
As a Mother, Jessica was a board member for her children’s school and was President of the PTA for five years and now is the President for the Diocese of Trenton PTA, overseeing 30 school PTAs. Her community involvement is extensive; always seeking to serve toward the betterment of others’ lives.
A well-known plant based diet advocate in her area , Jessica has written many articles for a local publication and hosted her podcast until her family’s life changed drastically. In July of 2019, Jessica’s middle son Sam sustained a C6 spinal cord injury while lifeguarding at the beach in Ocean Grove, NJ.
From the moment of the injury she never left his side. Using all of her knowledge about natural food and health, she advocated for her son to find the best care with the least amount of medication. This is still Jessica’s story; advocating for others to live with the best care in the most holistic sense possible. Today, she continues the fight to get her son up and walking and fights to help others in the spinal cord community get the best care possible.
